Avoid sudden temperature change. Do not pour boiling water into a cold piece, do not move a piece from a hot oven onto a cold surface, and do not put a hot piece under cold water. Sudden change can crack ceramic.

  • The lustre band contains metal. This piece must not be used in a microwave under any circumstance.
  • Hand wash only. The lustre band will not survive repeated dishwasher cycles.
  • The lustre band is applied and fired in a third, lower-temperature firing, which is why this set takes two kiln cycles before marking.

Engraving on this blank

  • Under-glaze

    +DKK 95

The most durable of the three. The mark sits under the glaze, so dishwasher cycles wear the glaze, not the mark. At 5 mm glyph height this panel holds about 12 characters on one line.

  • Laser etch

    Not offered on this blank

This set is finished with a hand-applied lustre band at the rim. Cutting through it would expose the metallic layer, so we do not laser etch this blank.

  • On-glaze decal

    +DKK 75

The least durable of the three. It is a surface treatment: with repeated dishwasher use it will gradually wear and lose density. Hand washing extends its life considerably. At 5 mm glyph height this panel holds about 12 characters on one line.

How it is made

Thrown by hand on the wheel, so no two are identical.

Dimensions and glaze colour vary by up to ±5% between pieces. Pinholing, speckle and slight colour movement are how a fired glaze behaves — they are characteristics of the material, not faults.
